at Rancho Bernardo, California
In May 2004, The Continuing Education Center at Rancho Bernardo became a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation following the closing of its 25 years of operation as an affiliate of the San Diego State University Extended Studies Department. The “new” CEC at RB accepted the very generous offer of The Remington Club to locate its headquarters and classroom activities in the deluxe residential complex for seniors in the heart of Rancho Bernardo. Here in well-equipped and comfortable accommodations, the CEC at RB has provided 80-90 lectures each academic year given by highly qualified professors from local universities and other experts in their fields.
Today, the "new" CEC at RB is an all-volunteer organization. All the work of the CEC is performed by dedicated people willing to share their time and talents without pay to provide a top-quality continuing education program in this North County community. What are the rewards for volunteers? The major reward, of course, is in knowing that they are doing something important -- providing learning opportunities -- primarily for seniors and retirees. Volunteers manage the operations of the CEC, register the enrollees for programs, do the computer data entry, write and edit CEC News and other publications, answer the phones, balance the budget, pay the bills, and handle all those responsibilities that any viable organization has. Recently, the CEC has been able to offer a modest honorarium to those outstanding scholars who provide lectures in the academic program.
CEC members are the real sponsors of the CEC at RB. The organization can count on this group of people for their continuing active support of academic and cultural activities. Members and volunteers are critical to the continuing success of the CEC at RB.
